BUSINESS TERM LOAN

What Is a Business Term Loan?

A business term loan, also known as a “small business loan”, gives you a single amount of capital upfront, which you repay in installments over a defined period. It’s the most straightforward way to fund an investment – new equipment, a new location, a hire you’ve been waiting to make – with fixed principal payments you can plan into your budget.

Porter Capital’s term loan is made for growing companies that traditional banks turned away, whether due to time in business, credit score, or simply not fitting the bank’s standards. We fund from $50,000 to $500,000, with terms up to 24 months, secured by a first lien on all business assets. With over 35 years in the industry, we analyze your specific situation to support your business when it needs it the most.

Same Day Funding

Why Businesses Choose Porter

Underwriters who read your file, not just your credit score.

We Look Beyond the Algorithm

Automated lenders score your business on previously set parameters. Porter’s underwriting team reviews the whole picture: cash flow trends, industry specificities, what is driving your numbers. With our analysis, we understand your current moment, so a thin credit file or a rough stretch doesn’t automatically end the conversation.

Pricing That Doesn’t Punish You for Needing Capital Fast

Many short-term lenders or merchant cash advances charge a premium for speed. Porter is built to deliver that same speed at a meaningfully lower cost.

A Team, Not a Support Ticket

You’ll work directly with a funding specialist who knows your business and file, and a company with 35+ years of funding experience and over $10 billion funded.

When Banks Say No, We Say “Let’s Talk”

If your business didn’t have the revenue history or the credit score required by the bank, you fit the gap we’re built to fund. No more being “too new for a bank” or being stuck paying high merchant cash advance rates.

Pay It Off Early at No Extra Cost

If your business is ready to pay off, there is no extra charge for paying ahead of the planned time.

Business Term Loan FAQs

What to know about loan amounts, qualifying, repayment, and funding speed before you talk to our team.

A business term loan is a lump sum of capital that a business repays in monthly installments over a defined period. It’s ideal for specific, large one-time expenses.

A term loan pays one lump sum upfront, repaid in monthly payments over a set term. A line of credit is revolving; you draw, repay, and draw again as needed. A term loan fits large, planned costs, while lines of credit fit ongoing or unpredictable expenses.

Porter offers business term loans from $50,000 to $500,000, based on your business’s cash flow, profile and time in operation. Our team individually assesses your financials, offering a tailored number for what you need.

To qualify, your business needs at least nine months in operation, a personal credit score of 650 or higher, and an active business bank account. If you meet those minimums, one of our underwriters reviews your full file, including cash flow and industry, to set an amount that fits your business.
For term loans greater than $300,000, borrowers will be requested to provide two years of business tax returns.

Porter’s term loans run 24 months and fully amortize. Principal payments stay the same each month. The interest rate is variable, so the interest portion of your payment changes as Prime moves.

Porter’s application takes minutes, and most businesses hear back from a funding specialist on the same day. Once you are approved, you can get funded in up to 24 hours.

Yes, Porter Capital will require a first lien on business assets. Porter Capital can work to pay off other lenders and release existing liens as part of the closing process and looks to have appropriately margined collateral for the loan. Porter Capital does not typically require real estate or outside personal assets to be pledged as collateral.

Porter Capital typically requires anyone who owns more than 20% of the borrowing business to guarantee the loan.

Applying will not affect your credit score until you accept the terms of the preliminary approval. Then, we will pull a hard credit check prior to providing loan documents. This is standard procedure with a loan.

Yes. You are free to pay off your term loan early if your business is in a position to do so, without any added costs for paying ahead of schedule.
